What is this book about?

Foraging is about so much more than apocalypse prep. A lot of us out there who have been involved in the foraging scene for decades know that. The world can be a place of anxiety and disconnection. Learning to forage can transform that experience of the world into something different.

To know foraging is to become a part of nature, to step into its flow and take the wild ride. You'll experience flavors you never knew were possible. You'll develop an understanding of your place in the natural world and see how it supports us abundantly with only a little knowledge. It will help you gain confidence in yourself and your ability to navigate the world around you. You'll really KNOW nature and be able to pass the knowledge on to future generations. You will understand the value of place and why it is so important to protect landscape.

But how to get started? So many books on foraging are just plant ID books. That's great for someone who already knows nature pretty well. I've read a lot of plant ID type books and found them lacking in the basics of foraging. A lot of the foraging books out there are great for people who have already developed basic skills in foraging.

Who is this book for?

This book is different. It's 15,000+ words, describing what foraging is, why someone might want to do it, and some basic strategies for getting started. It's the book that will give you an understanding of whether or not foraging is for you and how to get started if it is.

If that is you, if you are not an expert in foraging, this book will help you get started. It even has info about how to find wild foods or closer to wild foods in the grocery store and farmers market, if that is where you are comfortable right now.

At the same time, it also presents the meaning of foraging and nature connection at a deep level, stated in simple ways through story and metaphor, that even the seasoned forager may enjoy.
